The Feldenkrais Method® can be enriching for people of all ages and levels of function, but dancers in particular have much to gain. We have had years of commanding ourselves to meet exceptional goals. When we instead take the time to attend to what is actually happening when we initiate an action, rather than using our will to make it so and often doing some of the opposite of what we are intending, our capacity for easeful, non-injurious movement soars.
Ms. Teitelbaum conducts Feldenkrais® for Dancers workshops of varying lengths, to accommodate the scheduling needs of dance companies and schools. Her most recent workshop, given at City Center in New York, was a five-day, three hours per day, exploration through Awareness Through Movement® of fundamental movements of the spine as the precursor movements upon which all our motor learning is based. By highlighting and improving these innate competencies, dancers can find greater freedom and control of movement without sacrificing the aesthetic demands of their particular dance idiom. Future workshops may focus on different themes, such as What Are the Components of Balance? Allowing the Bigger Muscles to Take the Bigger Load. Can Turning to My Harder-To-Turn Side Become Easier? Please contact Ms. Teitelbaum to customize the workshop or series of lessons that would best suit your students.
